Arts Education
Key Terms
TECHNOLOGY
the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and
their interrelation with life,
society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.
MEDIA
the materials used in a work of art
SUBJECT MATTER
the matter that is subject to some action.
Using technology
Children should be provided with many oppurtunites that allow them to explore a different range of technology. A good example for young children would be to create a powerpoint presentation. To begin with younger children it could involve children to research an artist, or explore a type of art form that they are interested in. By allowing the children some freedom, they will become empowered and completely engaged in their work.
For older children could also be provided with a camera where they are able to take a picture of any subject matter they desire. They would then be asked to upload the image to the computer where they can experiment with photoshop and there digitally alter the image.
By clicking on the images below, the process of printmaking can be explored with simple instructions on how to complete this exercise.

Use of Technology
Technology is a broad thing to use in a classroom, and can involved a different range of media. By allowing children to use the computers to create art, or to digital alter images, allows them to grow on various skills that are becoming increasing popular in modern life. Technology also involves a range of media that is available in art rooms, such as light boxes, press, etc, that enables children to develop a range of different artworks and how they are created. The New South Wales government expresses "Within the scope of the syllabus each artform includes provision for learning experiences using traditional technologies, e.g. ceramics and photography in visual arts, conventional and non-traditional instruments in music, puppetry and mask in drama, and the incorporation of accompaniment and props in dance, in a range of contexts" (New South Wales Department of Education, 2013). The use of various technologies relates to the AusVELS standard of Level 6 that "students independently and collaboratively experiment with and apply a range of skills, techniques and processes using a range of media, materials, equipment and technologies to plan, develop, refine, make and present arts works", by using such a range of media, they are able to build upon various art skills and create deeper works of art, and expression.
